Cycling Socks with Micro Cushioning and Arch Support - Armstrong

Being big cyclists ourselves gave us the ability to design our ‘Armstrong’ cycling sock just the way we wanted it!

Having both ‘Road Bikes’ as well as ‘Mountain Bikes,’ we wanted a multi-purpose sock that could cut the mustard for both road cycling as well as off-road stuff.

So we started from the top and worked our way down, looking at each section of the sock and how we could make it as good as possible.

For the Top or ‘Cuff’ as we call it. We designed this to sit just above the ankle bone and made it a double cuff affair, this way the sock stays in place and the added bonus of the 'Double Cuff' is it stops grit or debris from getting down inside the socks whether you are on or off-road.

We then added a technical mesh fabric to the front and upper part of the foot. As we all know, moisture and condensation rises, so by adding mesh, we give it somewhere to go, and this allows your feet and the sock to breathe.

OK, so the top of the sock is nice and lightweight… However, we personally don’t like our socks to be too thin, we want that happy middle ground, but we would also like a small bit of cushioning, please!

So to give us that perfect weight, we used something called ‘Micro Cushioning’ which is basically a smaller loop than we usually get in sports socks, and we placed this ‘Micro Cushioning’ across the back of the ankle, down into the heel and then across the foot bottom and through into the toe. This way, we still get a bit of meat in the sock, but we keep that nice weight, and the 'Micro Cushioning' gives us that protective cushioning just where you need it.

Great, we are getting there, but what about the fit?

Well, fit is a bit of our speciality… We have been designing running socks for years, so we borrowed a bit of our running sock technology and added a thin end of ‘elastane’ to the backing of the entire sock. The result is you get a nice close-fitting sock that sits snugly on your feet and doesn't end up bunched up around your toes!

Another little trick we use on our running socks is ‘Elasticated’ arch support that also gently grips around the middle of the foot helping to prevent the socks from moving or creasing. So, guess what we added that as well…   

So, in the end, we got to the point where we had a debris-stopping top; breathable mesh upper, lightweight yet cushioned sock with a great close-fitting design and best of all, it does not end up bunched up around your toes.
